Physical Design of Yard Lights

Design consideration included dust-proofing and serviceability. In addition, it is not desirable to have the LEDs visible after the installation. A contraption was built which holds the circuit board, has a ‘light chute’ angled 30 degrees downwards and a dust seal.

The housing contains rails where the subassembly rests and is pushed against e Lexan window. The windows itself is painted with a red mask to hide the dust seal and allows only the light chute to be visible.

A similar subassembly was designed for the pillars. Since the hight of the light chute is twice that of the other yard lights, a extra baffle was centered in the chute, again, to avoid eye contact with the actual light sources.
